(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers won 10 of 14 events in the first session and 7 of 12 in the second session, dominating day one of Amby Legere Invitational swim meet, at the University of New Brunswick.

The home team's Lauren Adam did what she could to prevent the Tigers from sweeping the early session.

Adam won the first event of the day, the women's 50 metre freestyle.

Later, she took first in the 50 metre breaststroke.

UNB's Justin LeBlanc won the men's 50 metre breaststroke, edging Dal's Tony Liew. Noah Horwood, of the Varsity Reds took third.

In the men's 50 metre freestyle, Geriant Berger, of the Mount Allison Mounties, beat Liew by just two one-hundredths of a second.

In the evening session, the Tigers dominance continued.

Among the highlights in session two, Gavin Dyke's win in the men's 200 metre individual medley.

Dal's Phoebe Lenderyou took the women's 50 metre backstroke, then watched teammate Liew win the men's 50 metre backstroke.

"I thought we'd be a little bit faster, but I thought we raced well," said Tigers coach Lance Cansdale. "I thought our relays were pretty good, they were solid relays. I'm pretty happy if I don't look at the times, and just look at the efforts and the racing."

Adam and LeBlanc picked up where they left off.

Adam won the women's 100 metre breaststroke, while LeBlanc won the men's 100 metre backstroke.

"It's more of a practice meet, leading up to championships," said LeBlanc, who joined the Varsity Reds after taking last season off. Previously, LeBlanc swam for Acadia.

"It's more about sizing up the competition to see what's going to happen later on," he said.

Through the first 26 events, Dalhousie leads the team competition, followed by UNB and Acadia.

In the men's competition, Dal sits first, followed by Mount A and UNB.

In the women's competition, the Tigers lead Acadia. The Varsity Reds are in third.

The final session of the Amby Legere Invitational, the second meet on the Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule, goes Sunday, at 10:00AM, at UNB's Sir Max Aitken Pool.
