Flash Back Friday (Nov. 13)

This Friday, November 13, we are flashing back to the men and women swim teams from the 1999-2000 season.

The coaching staff for both teams included David Fry (Head Coach), Art Drysdale (Assistant Coach), Stacey Connick (Manager), Gary MacDonald (Assistant Coach), Sarah Conrad (Manager), and Bette El-Hawary (Manager).

This was the first season that David Fry received the AUS Coach of the Year award. He received the award 9 more times after that season until the year of 2012. He later earned the CIS coach of the Year award for his efforts in the 2002-03 season with the women’s team and again for the 2006-07 season with the men’s team.

The photo from the men’s team features  Danny French, Nick Graham, Mark Kennedy, Mike Gorman, Scott Sancton, Mike Lockett, Morgan Begg, Jordan Richardson, Ted MaDonald, Maciek Gawlik, Marty Laycock, Darek Desaulniers, Mike Dull, Oskar Stachowiak, Chris Stewart, Mike Terauds, Jamie Wildsmith, Rob Coleman, and Rob Harrison.

During this season, the men’s team made their way to the AUS Championships. Chris Stewart, Michael Lockett, Nick Graham, and Marty Laycock were all named AUS all-stars and Nick Graham was also named AUS Rookie of the Year.

Not only was Chris Stewart named as an all-star, but he was also the AUS Swimmer of the Year for the 1999-00 season. Moreover, he was also named one of the CIS first team all-Canadians. During this season, he was a CIS Medalist, earning Gold in the 50m breaststroke and Silver in the 200m breaststroke.

The women’s team photo includes Lori Borgal, Sandi McLean, Allison Vigeant, Sarah Mathieson, Hannah Fraser, Amber Mather, Emily Thompson, Lauren MacKay, Amy Woodworth, Lindsay Eller, Angela MacAlpine, Maureen Mahoney, Caitlin Peterson, Katy LeGrow, Maryelle Hannam, Amy Clattenburg, Christa Unfried, Danielle Timothy, Gail Whittaker, and Ange Hogan.

The women’s team also made it to the AUS Championships for their efforts in the 1999-00 season. Angela MacAlpine, Amy Woodworth, Sandi McLean, Lindsay Eller, Lori Borgal, Amber Mather, Gail Whittaker, Caitlin Peterson, and Hannah Fraser were all listed as AUS all-stars.

Sandi McLean and Angela MacAlpine were not only an AUS all-stars, but Sandi was also the AUS Championship swimmer of the meet and Angela was the AUS swimmer of the year.

The current 2015-16 swim teams are hosting the Dalhousie Invitational swim meet on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 at the Dalplex. Events start at 10am and 4pm each day.
