REDS beat Tigers 3-1

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS completed a weekend sweep of the Dalhousie Tigers with a 3-1 victory in RSEQ men's volleyball action, Saturday afternoon at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
The home team won with scores of 20-25, 25-14, 25-15, and 25-23.
Fourth-year REDS outside hitter Eduardo Luchese (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) led the REDS with 18 kills and was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
The first set saw the teams play closely through the mid-way point.
The Tigers began to pull away from the REDS with multiple kills by Michael Donovan (London, ON).
Travis Pruim (Osler, SK) added back-to-back blocks to close the Tigers lead on the REDS.
Despite the REDS' efforts, the visiting team claimed the first set with a 25-20 win.
Finn McMorran (New Maryland, NB) hit a couple of big kills pulling UNB ahead 11-4 on route to the 25-14 win for the REDS and tying the game one set apiece.
The third set, like the second, saw the REDS take an early advantage.
Luchese and Jacob Harris (Clarenville, NL) hit multiple kills throughout the third, securing a 25-15 win and taking a two-sets-to-one lead.
The fourth set remained close until the final moments with the REDS securing the win 25-23 and the 3-1 match victory.
Scott Mann (Winnipeg, MB) led UNB with a game-high 12 digs, while McMorran had 21 assists, also a game-high.
Donovan led the Tigers' offence with a game-high 19 kills and Justin Cross (Winnipeg, MB) registered nine digs for the visiting team.
With the win, the REDS improve to 7-7 and are in third place in the RSEQ standings.
Dal is now 1-11. The Tigers are in fifth place.
Dal will now host Laval on Friday. Game time is 6:00pm Atlantic.
The REDS will be hosting the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in a weekend series, February 7th and 8th.
