[Halifax, NS] The UNB Reds defeated the Dalhousie Tigers by three sets to none (25-20, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday night in Halifax.
Dal and UNB split the first twelve points evenly, before the REDS were led on a 6-0 run to take control of the set on setter Lucas Maffia's (Victoria, BC) serve. The Tigers tried to find a way back with a couple kills from second year outside Jacob Oyler (Halifax, NS), but to no avail.
UNB saw their great play continue into the second set, with three kills early on from outside hitter Jacob Harris (Clarenville, NL). They held their lead for the rest of the interval, despite a couple of small runs by the Tigers, led by Bannon Rourke (Stillwater Lake, NS) and Josh DeYoung (Cole Harbour, NS).
The third set saw a couple of lead changes before UNB began to pull away. Harris continued his stellar night, and Luchese began to find form as the Reds were at their best to end the night.
UNB's standout player on the night was Lex Guimond (Baie-Sainte-Anne, NB, who led the team in hitting percentage, solo blocks and total blocks on the night. The Tigers saw a great performance tonight from Oyler, as he had 12 points with 11 kills, along with 4 kills in the loss.
After tonight's result, the Reds pick up their first win on the year, while Dal remains winless.
Both teams will meet back at the Dalplex for tomorrow's 3 PM ADT start time.
