Tigers fall to Sherbrooke 3-1
Michael Donovan led the Tigers with 15 kills in the loss.
In the first set, Sherbrooke took control early on with a strong effort from Sherbrooke's Gregoire Mercier-Noel (Boucherville, QC). Dalhousie's eight errors were pivotal in Sherbrooke's success in the first set. The Vert et OR took the first set 25-19.
The second set was razor-thin, going into extra points. Sherbrooke Jonathan Portelance (Sherbrooke, NS) made timely plays to give UDS the second set 28-26.
Dalhousie was in control during the third set. At 4-4, Dalhousie would score in ten of the next twelve points. Dal's Tyler Wiseman made huge plays, especially at the end where he had the set-winning assist, a crucial kill, and a key block. The set ended 16-25 for Dal.
The fourth set was back-and-forth, but the Vert et Or executed in the final moments to secure the victory. Sherbrooke played efficient volleyball, hitting an average of .400% in the fourth set, to Dalhousie's .290%.
Dalhousie kept the match competitive, with great performances from Michael Donovan (London, ON) who had fifteen kills and Josh Deyoung (Cole Harbour, NS) who had twelve kills.
In the end, the Vert et Or took away the closely contested match. Sherbrooke's balanced approach showed dividends by winning the game while six players had above six points.
A competitive match, with intense action in the second and fourth sets, ultimately ends in Dalhousie's defeat.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow versus the Reds at 3:00 pm ADT at the Sexton Gym. Sherbrooke returns to action on October 25th versus Laval at 6:30 pm ADT.
