[Halifax, NS]– The Sherbrooke Vert et Or defeated the Dalhousie Tigers by 3 sets to 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) on Friday night.

The first set of the contest was marked by some excellent play from both teams. For Dalhousie, they were led by third-year outside Michael Donovan (London, ON) who had 4 kills in this interval. However, it was the play of Sherbrooke's Jérémie Doyon (Saint-Joseph de Beauce, QC) that was the difference in the opening period. He had 5 kills and was responsible for the decisive point that put Sherbrooke one set to the good by a score of 25 to 20.

In the second set, the match tightened up considerably. Dalhousie saw a boost in fortunes thanks to third year outside Josh DeYoung (Cole Harbour, NS). Neither squad led by more than two points throughout the set, with multiple lead changes and ties throughout the period. The nail-biting final third of the set showed the fine margins between the teams. In the end, the Vert et Or's pair of points from 20-20 on proved to be important as the squads' traded points for the rest of the set, which was punctuated by another kill from Doyon after he was set up by setter Jonathan Portelance (La Prairie, QC).

Both teams started strongly in the first few points of the third set, but it was Sherbrooke who were able to continue their march forward. Much like the first set, the Vert et Or built a lead and did not relinquish it. Dalhousie fought valiantly to gain a foothold, but the onslaught from the opposition was simply too much on the night. Sherbrooke finished the night on the first time of asking with an ace from Elliot Collard (Chicoutimi), keeping them undefeated this scholastic year.

Sherbrooke gains their ninth straight win to start the season, while Dalhousie collects their seventh loss of the season after tonight's contest.

Both teams are back in action here tomorrow on Saturday, January 13 at the Dalplex at 3:00PM AST.
