[Québec City, QC]– The Laval Rouge et Or beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-12) on Friday evening in RSEQ regular season action.
Early in the first set, Laval got out to a quick 5-2 lead, punctuated by a kill from Max Losier (Ottawa, ON). Later in the set, an ace from Dalhousie's Thomas Watchman (Edmonton, AB) cut the Rouge et Or's lead to three before Laval called a time-out. Out of the break, Laval finished strong, winning 10 of the next 11 points and ended the set with a 25-13 victory.
The second set saw the Tigers find their footing and really sink their teeth into the game.
After an early Dalhousie run to give them the lead, Laval responded with a few points of their own. Midway through the set, the teams were neck-and-neck. As the set neared its end, it was Laval who came out on top in the most crucial points. They clinched a two-set lead after a service error from Dalhousie's Lucas Condon-Oldreive (Halifax, NS).
In the third set, Laval built a strong lead, taking 8 of the first 11 points.
Losier added to his stat line with a trio of kills over this stretch of the game. The Tigers clawed their way back into the set, culminating in an awe-inspiring kill from Michael Donovan (London, ON) via an amazing set from Watchman. However, in the end the Rouge et Or proved too much for the Tigers. Back-to-back aces from Laval's Charles St-Aubin (Joliette, QC) put the match firmly out of reach, with the set ending 25-12 in the Rouge et Or's favour.
In a valiant effort, Michael Donovan was the Tigers' standout performer posting 7 kills and a team-leading .227 hitting percentage on the night.
With the loss, Dalhousie drops to 2-5 on the season. Laval improves their record to 5-2.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm EST.
