[HALIFAX NS] –The UNB Reds beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 on Friday evening at the Dalplex.

The first set found the Tigers trailing but not by much.

Michael Donovan (London, ON) for Dalhousie attempted to sneak the ball passed the arms of a UNB wall but was denied however, his quick hands secured him the point after all.

For three concessive points, UNB's Jacob Harris (Clarenville, NL) sent over powerful spikes that Dalhousie was unable to respond to.

Lucas Maffia (Victoria, BC) set up 9 points for the Reds which aided in the 25-23 set win.

The second set was yet another close battle.

When under pressure, UNB used quick hands and good defending off the net to score.

Harris attempted to reward a good UNB build up, but Lucas Condon-Oldreiv (Porters Lake, NS) was not going to allow that and blocked the attempt to tie the game at 11-11.

A quick return from UNB made the Tigers scramble but Justin Cross (Winnipeg, MB) was able to settle the play and secure a huge back row kill.

Back-to-back service aces for the Reds Travis Prium (Osler, SK) forced the Tigers to take a timeout and regroup.

UNB's Lex Guimond (Baie-Sainte Anne, NB) tipped the ball right through the Tigers defence and secured the final point of the second set to win 25-19.

The third set sealed the deal.

Rafael Hilario (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) for the Reds sent over 5 cross court spikes that proved too hard for the Tigers to handle.

While the Tigers attempted to lessen the deficit, the Reds still came out victorious with a score of 25-18 in the final set.

Donovan secured player of the game due to his great attacking efforts that gave him 19 kills.

Catch both teams back in action tomorrow at 1pm at the Dalplex.
