Tigers fall to Sherbrooke in straight sets

Tigers fall to Sherbrooke in straight sets

The Sherbrooke Vert et Or won the opening game of the RSEQ season on Friday night, beating the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 30-28).

The teams started off the first set fairly evenly. The Tigers hitters Josh DeYoung, Justin Cross and Derrick Ejeckhm all recording kills early. After a Tigers timeout, Sherbrooke's Hugo Ouellet went to work at the service line, forcing the Tigers into difficult positions and errors followed. Up 20-14, the Vert et Or duo of Ouellet and Jeremie Doyon closed out the set and securing the opening set victory for Sherbroooke.

The second set started much the same way the first one ended, with Sherbrooke going on two and three-point runs at the hands of Doyon and Zachary Hollands. Kills by Michael Donovan late in the set gave the Tigers some signs of life, but it was too late and the Vert et Or took the second set 25-17 for a 2-0 lead.

An inspired Tigers team returned to the court in the third set, going point for point with Sherbrooke. Cross and Donovan continued to be a source of points for the Tigers the final set. Donovan would end the game with a team high nine kills, followed closely by Justin Oyler at eight. Errors late in the set kept the Tigers in it, and made it hard for Sherbrooke to close out the game. Eventually back-to-back errors from the Tigers gave Sherbrooke the distance and the win.

Doyon would end the game with 25 kills for the Vert et Or, followed by 11 from Ouellet.

The two team return to the court on Saturday at 2pm AT.
