(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS struggled once again to find any sort of groove in a 3-0 loss to the Dalhousie Tigers, IN RSEQ men's volleyball action, on Saturday afternoon.
Dalhousie won with scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20.
Josh DeYoung (Halifax, NS) and Lucas Condon-Oldreive (Halifax, NS) led the Tigers with 13 kills each and 16 and 17 total points scored respectively.
Rafael Hilario (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) put forth a strong effort for UNB with 15 kills and 18 total points, both game highs.
The REDS started on the right foot with an early 7-4 lead in the first set.
The Tigers would answer, taking 10 of the next 15 points to pull ahead 14-12.
After UNB swung back with three of the next five to cut the Dal lead to 16-15, the Tigers would take the following three to go up 19-15 and would hold that advantage to take the first set 25-20 for a 1-0 lead.
The two teams would go back and forth to start the second set, finding themselves tied 10-10.
The REDS would then pull ahead, taking five of the next seven points to go up 15-12.
Dalhousie would then push back, taking nine of the following 15 points to even the set 21-21.
After trading the next four points to make the score 23-23, Dalhousie would score the next two to steal the set 25-23 for a 2-0 lead.
"We have yet to find our 'A' game," said REDS head coach Dan McMorran. "We've had it in sets, but we haven't had anything consistent enough to be able to put together a run of sets [and win]."
After splitting the opening eight points of the third set 4-4, the Tigers would take nine of the next 16 points to take a 13-11 lead.
They would once again keep the REDS at that distance through the set to take it 25-20 for the 3-0 win.
UNB now sits at 0-6, while Dalhousie is 2-6 after their second consecutive win..
The REDS are on the road next Friday and Saturday, visiting the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. Game time on Friday is 7:00pm (Atlantic).
The Tigers now enter their mid-season break. They'll resume play on Friday January 13th when they visit Laval.
