Elsayed commits to Tigers for 2022-23

Dalhousie Tigers men’s volleyball head coach Dan Ota is pleased to announce the commitment of Yassein Elsayed for the 2022-23 season.

Elsayed plays his club volleyball for the Kitchener-Waterloo Predators Volleyball Club. The setter and his Predators teammates are the reigning Ontario Volleyball Association D1 provincial champions and represented their province at Volleyball Canada’s national tournament last month. Elsayed was named to Team Ontario’s indoor program for the 2021-22 season.

The Oakville, Ontario resident is a two-year team captain of his Garth Webb Secondary School volleyball team. A four-year member of the Chargers volleyball team, he has helped lead them to a top four finish in the Halton Secondary Schools Athletic Association AAA division each season.

“I am very excited to begin my journey as a Tiger at Dalhousie University,” says Elsayed. “The beautiful campus, the great academics and the incredible coaching staff all seem like perfect fits. To have an opportunity to compete under Coach Ota with all the knowledge he possesses and the success he has experienced is really a dream come true. I can’t wait to get in the gym, push myself over the next couple of years and see just how far the program can go.”

A three-year member of the honour roll at Garth Web Secondary School, Elsayed will be studying science at Dalhousie.

“Yassein has the qualities to be a great floor general,” says Ota. “I’ve been impressed by his drive and leadership qualities – he will add a lot to our team culture.”

The Tigers return to the court in their regular season home opener on Friday, October 23.
