Carabins beat Tigers in straight sets on Friday night

HALIFAX, NS – The Tigers men's volleyball team was unable to keep up with the Carabins on Friday night, losing in straight sets.

Early in the first set, the Carabins took the lead and held on to it. The Tigers found themselves struggling to close the gap and managed to stall the Carabins tying it up at nine points apiece. The Carabins gained control soon after and led the rest of the way, taking the set 25-18.

Dalhousie got off to an early lead, earning the first two points of the second set, but Montreal quickly gained their footing and mounted a four-point lead. The Tigers battled back late in the set and made it 21-21 but were unable to keep the momentum and lost the set to the Carabins 25-22.

The third set started out with a quick two points for Montreal. The Tigers tied it up 3-3 before the Carabins again took the lead. Midway through the set, the Tigers tied it at 14, but a very brief back and forth had the Carabins leading 16-15 at the technical timeout.

Montreal came out strong following the timeout and mounted a five-point lead and didn't let up, taking the third and final set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Ethan Boyd (Summerside, PE) had a team-high nine kills and five digs, while Bruce Aku (Winnipeg, MB) added eight kills and five. Quinton Dowling (Waterloo, Ont.) had 27 assists and six digs.

Subway Player of the Game Julien Boileau (Montreal, QC) had 10 kills, two aces, and a total of 12.5 points for the match for the Carabins, while Alexis Tournier (Gatineau, QC) added 11 kills and four digs.

The teams face off against each other again Saturday afternoon at Dalplex at 1:00pm.
