Laval tops Dal 3-0

In a marathon first set, Laval needed 30 points to take the first set from the host Tigers. The Tigers took the lead right out of the gate and held a six-point lead at the technical timeout. Laval closed the gap and pushed past the Tigers to take the set 30-28. The Tigers had a balanced attack with 21 kills to Laval's 13 but gave up nine points in service errors. Olivier Jannini had four kills and two blocks in the first set for Laval, while Connor Maessen had five kills and two blocks for the Tigers.

The teams traded points in the second set and it was Laval who would win the race to 16 with a two-point lead over the Tigers at the technical time out. Despite the Tigers best efforts to push ahead of the Rouge et Or, Laval took the second set 25-22. Laval bested the Tigers offensively with 18 kills in the second set while Dal had 15.

Laval controlled the third set while the Tigers struggled to build momentum. The Rouge et Or carried a three-point lead into the technical time out and did not look back, topping the Tigers 25-20 in the third and final set.

Subway Player of the Game Ethan Ellison led the Rouge et Or with 43 assists and three digs. Vicente Parraguirre had 14 kills and five digs while Vincent Thibault-Bernier had 15 digs for Laval. Dal's player of the game, Connor Maessen had 12 kills and three blocks and setter Jonathan Macdonald had 42 assists, three kills, six digs and four blocks.

Laval finishes the AUS-RSEQ Interlock with a 3-0 record, while Dalhousie falls to 1-2.


 

In other AUS-RSEQ Interlock action, the Memorial Sea-Hawks fell 3-0 to les Carabins de Montreal in the 6pm match up.

In the opening set, the teams traded points until the Carabins started to break away at the technical time out, eventually taking the first set 25-21. Montreal pulled away early in the second and continued to widen their lead over the Sea-Hawks to take the second set 25-16. It was more of the same in the third and final set, with the Carabins taking the set 25-19.

Philippe Carrier led the Carabins offensively with 11 kills and 12.0 points and was named the Subway Player of the Game. Gabriel Chancy had 24 assists and four digs, while Oualid Baahmad added four digs in the contest.

Leading the way for the Sea-Hawks was Jordan Murray with nine kills and 12.0 points. Kevin Delahunt had 24 assists.

Montreal ends the AUS-RSEQ Interlock with a 1-2 record while the Sea-Hawks went 0-3.

In the third match of the night, Sherbrooke defeated UNB 3-1.

The Varsity Reds got off to an early lead in the first set, but Sherbrooke cut UNB's lead midway through and did not look back, taking the opening set 25-20.

It was all UNB in the second set as they controlled the pace of play and built up and maintained a six-point lead taking the second set 25-19.

After trading points early in the third set, it was Sherbrooke's turn to take control as they topped the Varsity Reds 25-19.

In the fourth and final set of the match, both teams battled for control but it was the Vert et Or who came out on top, winning 28-26.

Hugo Rosso-Bonneau had 11 kills and 10 digs for the Vert et Or, while Subway Player of the Game Ivan Reka added eight kills six digs and three blocks.

UNB's player of the game Pascal McCarthy had 14 kills, eight digs and six blocks for 18.0 points.

Sherbrooke ends the AUS-RSEQ Interlock with a 3-0 record, while UNB falls to 1-2.
