Tigers Finish 2-1 at Second Interlock

The men’s volleyball team went 2-1 over the weekend in Montreal at the second AUS-RSEQ Interlock event of the season hosted by the Universite de Montreal Carabins. The Tigers eight game winning-streak was snapped on Saturday as Laval got the better of them in a thrilling 5-set match.

The Tigers opened up the weekend with a win over Sherbrooke in straight sets (25-23, 25-12, 25-23). Bryan Duquette and Kristen O’Brien led the way combining for 23 kills and 15 digs in the victory. William Marier was the best attacker for Sherbrooke, recording 7 kills on 20 attacks.

On Saturday morning, Dalhousie suffered their first loss of the season in a 5-set match against the Laval Rouge et Or. After dropping the first set 25-16 the Tigers rallied back to win a marathon 32-30 second set to tie the game at one. The teams split the next two sets setting the stage for an exciting fifth and final set. Laval would end up on top taking the final set 15-11. Bryan Duquette continued his great start to the season notching 17 kills and 14 digs. Duquette leads the AUS with 3.39 kills per set.

Later in the day the Tigers bounced back with a 5-set victory over the Carabins (25-27, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18, 15-12). Kristen O’Brien was the Tigers most dangerous attacker with 17 kills. Montreal’s Godefroy Veyron-Tr led the game in kills with 19.

Dalhousie’s 9-1 record gives them a commanding grip on first place in the AUS, where they lead by ten points. They’ll take a break for the holidays and they won’t be back on the court again until the next AUS-RSEQ interlock event on January 16, which takes place at Laval.
