UPEI explode past Tigers 7-4
The Panthers scored four in the third period to beat the Tigers 7-4 on Friday.
Dalhousie fell to the University of Prince Edward Island in a 7-4 matchup on Friday in Charlottetown, PE.
The first period opened with strong goaltending from Dalhousie's Nicholas Chenard, who successfully saved multiple shots from the Panthers players, including attempts by Logan Kelly-Murphy and Cameron Morton. The Panthers faced an early penalty as Patrick LeBlanc was sent off for hooking at 7:25, giving Dalhousie a power play opportunity, although they could not capitalize on it. Shortly after the completion of their power play, Dalhousie's Ryan Del Monte received a tripping penalty at 9:29, granting the home team a power play, which also went unconverted. The period's only goal came at 12:18, when Evan MacKinnon scored for Dalhousie with assists from Paul Hughes and Jared Cosman, giving the visiting team a 1-0 lead by the end of the period.
The second period of the game between Dalhousie and the Panthers began with Dalhousie winning the initial faceoff. The Panthers opened the scoring at 5:32 with a goal by Robert Orr, assisted by Brett Bressette. Dalhousie responded with Colin MacDougall scoring at 10:07, leveling the score at 1-1, but the Panthers quickly regained the lead with a goal from Elias Cohen at 10:43. Dalhousie's MacDougall scored again at 15:21, followed by a power-play goal from Jarrett Baker at 17:47, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Dalhousie. The Panthers' Ben McFarlane equalized at 18:59 during a power play, concluding the period with both teams scoring three goals each, making the score 4-3 in favor of Dalhousie.
In the third period, the Panthers dominated the scoring, beginning with Brett Bressette's goal at 1:12, assisted by Robert Orr, to take the lead. Dalhousie struggled with penalties, starting with Jack Harper's tripping penalty at 3:40, which led to a power play for the Panthers. The Panthers capitalized on Dalhousie's penalties, with Bressette scoring again at 5:49 and Elias Cohen adding another goal at 6:42. Cole Larkin sealed the period's scoring with a goal at 16:54. The period ended with a series of misconduct penalties for both teams at 19:46, highlighted by significant penalties against Dalhousie's Brody Fournier and Joseph Serpa, and the Panthers' Marc Richard and Keiran Gallant.
Colin MacDougall stood out for Dalhousie with two goals from two shots, showcasing his efficiency. Jarrett Baker also made an impact with one goal, a power-play tally, from two shots. Evan MacKinnon contributed with a goal from his sole shot, highlighting his precision. Brody Fournier was notable for accumulating 15 penalty minutes, including a major penalty, indicating his aggressive play on the ice. Additionally, Nicholas Chenard, despite a challenging game, recorded 34 saves, demonstrating his workload in the net.
The Tigers head to Fredericton on January 24 to face the UNB REDS.
