Tigers fall to X-Men
The STFX X-Men defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 8-0 on Wednesday.
[Halifax, NS] The StFX X-Men defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 8-0 on Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum.
The first period was controlled by STFX. The X-Men's attack was in full throttle, getting multiple opportunities early. Six minutes into the contest the X-Men seized an opportunity as STFX's Alex Christopoulos (Richmond Hill, ON) scored a wrist shot from the right circle during a power play to give the X-Men a 1-0 lead. Soon after, ten minutes in, a pass was blasted into the slot by an X-Men, resulting in a tap-in from STFX's Clark Webster (Kensington, PE), extending the lead to 2-0. Dalhousie has had a few counter-attack opportunities, all dissipating before any meaningful opportunity on the X-Men's net.
The X-Men's dominance quickly escalated in the second period. Within two minutes, the X-Men's Zack Trott (Mulmur, ON) and Jacob Mailett (Dundas, ON) scored respectively, extending the lead to 4-0. The X-Men's onslaught didn't end as Ryan Struthers (Milton, ON) found his way on the goal sheet, making the lead 5-0. The Tigers started to gain momentum in the second half of the period - until the X-Men's Connor Roberts (Owen Sound, ON) scored on a fastbreak with a stylish fake deke, while the X-Men were short-handed, bringing the lead to an insurmountable 6-0.
The third period was more of the same. STFX's Trott scored his second of the game off a tight-angled wrist shot from the left of the net, expanding the lead to 7-0. The X-Men scored an eighth goal off a simple tap-in from Charlie Callaghan (Toronto, ON), giving Christopoulos his fourth assist.
The Tigers recorded 20 shots, the X-Men had 42 shots. Dal's Robbie Forbes (Oakville, ON) made some impressive saves despite the goal count, especially in the third period, which was Dal's best period.
Christopoulos was named player of the game for the X-Men with one goal and four assists.
The Tigers drop to 1-10 on the season, losing their seventh in a row. The X-Men are now 6-5, winning their third straight.
The Tigers look to find their footing this Friday, they travel to Prince Edward Island to face UPEI at 7:00 pm AST. The X-Men face UPEI this Saturday at the Charles V. Keating Centre.
