Rookie goaltender Nathan Darveau earned a shutout in his first university game as the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (2-0) blanked the Dalhousie University Tigers (0-2) 6-0 in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game on Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in front of 760 spectators.
Derek Cormier's squad took a 3-0 lead in the first period and played 60 minutes to secure a second win in as many nights. It was the second straight loss for the Tigers, who lost Friday.
Olivier-Luc Haché (unassisted) scored his team's 6th midway through the third period. Nathan Darveau, the game's 2nd star, stopped 24 (10-7-7) shots and Alexander MacDonald saw 40 (17-15-8) shots in the loss.
Mika Cyr (Toner, Michel) at 11:12 on the power play and David Doucet (Yannic Bastarache) with his first university goal 7 minutes later gave the Aigles a 5-0 lead in the second period.
Moncton took a 3-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Charles-Édouard Drouin (Desrosiers, Boudreau) at 4:34 on a precise shot into the corner of the net. Edouard St-Laurent (Nathaël Roy) scored at 11:36 on a shot with a scramble in front of the net and Maxime Boudreau (Alexis Arsenault, CE Drouin) at 19:40 with a shot on the ice got the 3rd. Dalhousie was 0-for-4 on the power play and Moncton 1-for-3. Forward Charles-Edouard Drouin and Jonathan Desrosiers were the first and 3rd stars of the game.
Moncton visits the Panthers in Charlottetown on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Dalhousie will host the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday. The Tigers host their home opener on Friday versus crosstown rivals Saint Mary's Huskies.
