REDS defeat Tigers 8-2

The UNB REDS beat the Dalhousie Tigers 8-2 on Saturday night, eliminating the Tigers from the playoffs.

The REDS opened the scoring just 1:32 into the first period when Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC) found a way past the Tigers Nicholas Chenard (Tecumseh, ON). UNB extended their lead off the stick of Colton Kammerer (Brooklin, ON). Two minutes later Kade Landry (Gowanstown, ON) found the back of the net. Halfway through the period the REDS got their second powerplay of the game when Matthew Hill (Hamilton, ON) was called for hooking. Kale McCallum (Rothesay, NB) capitalized on the man advantage give the REDS a 4-0 lead heading into intermission.

The Tigers came out flying in the second quarter. While on the power play, Joseph Serpa (Cambridge, ON) scored the first of two Tigers goals in the game, just 20 seconds into the period. Despite playing a fast, high-pressing game, the Tigers gave up two more power play goals with Jason Willms and Adam McCormick (Waterville, NB) getting on the score sheet. Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) joined his teammates on the stats sheet in the second period. The REDS headed into the locker room up 7-1 after 40 minutes.

For the final frame, Robbie Forbes (Oakville, ON) entered the game in net for the Tigers and turned away all, but an Austen Keating (Puslinch, ON) shot early in the period. Dalhousie's Dawson Stairs (Fredericton, NB) scored his second of the season to get one back for the Tigers halfway through the period.

UNB's Jason Willms was named the player of the game, recording a goal and two assists.

The REDS return to the ice on Wednesday when the look to extend their win streak in Moncton. The Tigers travel to Wolfville on Friday to battle the Axemen.
