(FREDERICTON, NB) Simon Pinard (Drummondville, QC) scored twice to lead the UNB REDS to a 5-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night.

"We wanted to make a push, stay calm, and not panic so we focus on the next play," said Pinard, named Subway Player of the Game.

Pinard's pair came alongside Camaryn Baber's (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) first goal of the season. Austen Keating (Guelph, ON) and Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC) also scored for UNB.

The REDS offensive momentum came with a strong backcheck.

"The backcheck is just as important as the forecheck," said Baber.

Campbell Pickard (Halifax, NS) scored Dal's lone goal, midway through the third period.

"They came at us hard, and we weren't able to hold them off after the second period," said Pickard. "Our first period was really good, we just couldn't maintain it in the second."

The Tigers felt pressure immediately and a strong UNB side was relentless on Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Tigers did look for positives.

"We're excited to have them come to our barn on Friday," said Pickard. "We'll give them another good fight."

UNB goalie Samuel Richard (Ste. Catherine, QC) stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced, earning his second win of the weekend and season.

Tigers' goalie Connor Hicks (Kanata, ON) made 44 saves on a total of 49 shots by the REDS.'

The REDS are now 3-and-2 and riding a two-game win streak. UNB has moved into third place in the Atlantic University Sport standings, while the Tigers are last, at 1-and-5.

Up next… a re-match.

The Tigers host the REDS on Friday. Game time is 7:00pm.
