The Dalhousie Tigers beat the UPEI Panthers 5-2 in men's hockey at the Halifax Forum on Saturday November 13th

The Tigers opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal from Barret Kirwin (Barrie, ON).

Shortly after, Panthers Richard Whittaker (Holland Landing, ON) was sent off for slashing. Campbell Pickard (Halifax, NS) capitalized on the man advantage thirty seconds into the power play and scored Dalhousie's second goal. Piccard's goal extended the Tigers lead to 2-0 with eight minutes left in the first period.

Tigers Goaltender Reilly Pickard (Halifax, NS) was in top form and came up big defensively with 15 saves through the first 20 minutes of action. As a result, despite leading in the shots column (15-13), the Panthers trailed the Tigers 2-0 at the end of the first period.

Three minutes into the second period, Campbell Pickard quickly scored on the short-handed Panthers who went down a man after Drake Pilon (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) was sent off for cross-checking. This was Pickard's second goal of the game and Dalhousie's third overall.

With 10 minutes left in the second period, the Panthers picked up their first goal of the game as Matt Brassard (Barrie, ON) scored off of an assist from Kaleb Pearson (St. Mary's, ON) and Jordan Maher (Gander, NL).

However, much to delight of the home crowd, Derek Gentile (Sydney, NS) broke away in the closing moments of the second period and notched a fourth team goal that restored Dalhousie's three-point lead.

The Tigers closed out the second period with a 4-1 lead over the Panthers.

Clearly instilled with a new sense of urgency, the Panthers opened the third period with heavy offensive which culminated in Filip Rydström (Vallentuna, Stockholm) scoring a goal with 13 minutes left in the game.

Shaun Miller (Enfield, NS) ultimately put an exclamation on the game when he scored the fifth and final Dalhousie goal with two minutes remaining in the third period.

From there on the Tigers defence stood strong and they beat the Panthers with a final score of 5-2.

Campbell Pickard was awarded player of the game honours after scoring two goals.

Other notable performances included Panthers Filip Rydström and Matt Brassard as well as Tigers Barret Kirwin, Shaun Miller and Derek Gentile, all of whom scored a goal.

Up next, the Panthers face the Acadia Axemen on Wednesday November 17th and the Tigers travel to Université de Moncton to play Les Aigles Bleus on Friday November 19th.
