Tigers fall 7-6 in OT to Aigles Bleus

The Moncton Aigles Bleus (2-5-1) scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers (3-4-1) 7-6 in overtime.

Dillon Boucher (Head Chezzetcook, N.S.) got on the board early for the Tigers less than six minutes into the game. Aiden Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) and Campbell Pickard (Halifax, N.S.) were credited with the assists.

Moncton would respond about four minutes later, with Olivier-Luc Haché (Savoie landing, N.B.) scoring his first of the AUS regular season. Gabriel Vanier (Boisbriand, Q.C.) and William Basque (Tracadie, N.B.) earned the assists.

Liam Peyton (Halifax, N.S.)  scored on a stellar pass Shaun Miller (Enfield, N.S.) to give the Tigers at 2-1 lead with less than four minutes to play in the first. Christian Huntley (Halifax, N.S.) also assisted.

With just over a minute to play in the first, Logan O'Neil (Sydney, N.S.) scored his first of the year off a great pass from Jamieson and Connor Welsh (Halifax, N.S.)

Connor Hicks (Kanata, Ont.) made several great stops during the first period including a stellar save on Edouard St-Laurent (Lévis, Q.C.) after receiving a pass through the slot.

Shots were 8-4 Dalhousie.

The Tigers headed to the first intermission with a 3-1 lead.

Dalhousie got their first power play of the game after Vincent Lanoue (Repentigny, Q.C.) was sent off for hooking. They got a 5-3 advantage just over a minute later when Remy Anglehart (Gascon, Q.C.) got a penalty for hitting from behind. Barret Kirwin (Barrie, Ont.) capitalized on the opportunity with a goal. Darien Kielb (Hamilton, Ont.) got the assist.

Undeterred by the Tigers 4-1 lead, Moncton got their second goal of the game from Wilson Forest (Matane, Q.C.) midway through the second period.

Kirwin responded for the Tigers, scoring his second of the game just over a minute later.

Despite a couple of power play chances for the Aigles Bleus, the Tigers headed into the second intermission with a 5-2 lead.

Hicks turned away another 12 shots while Moncton netminder Emile Samson (Lévis, Q.C.) made another five saves.

Penalties were the name of the game in the third period with six called (four for the Tigers, two to Moncton) in the first three minutes of the third. Moncton had a 5-3 advantage and capitalized on the opportunity with Denis Toner (Saint-André, N.B.) scoring his first of the regular season 4:25 minutes in to close the gap at 5-3.

Campbell Pickard (Halifax, N.S.) was quick to respond less than a minute later with a short-handed goal to give the Tigers a three-goal lead again with Matt Green (Hammonds Plains, N.S.) earning the assist.

Moncton's Nathael Roy (Lévis, Q.C.) scored his sixth goal of the year just over a minute later to bring the Aigles Bleus within two. Gabriel Vanier (Boisbriand, Q.C.) added a tally of his own a minute later to make it a one-goal game.

Anglehart continued the scoring for Moncton, earning his second tally of the night to tie the game at 6-6 with less than four minutes remaining in the third period.

The third period ended in a 6-6 tie, forcing a three-on-three overtime period.

Dalhousie's Connor Welsh (Halifax, N.S.) had a solid chance seconds into the OT period, but he was turned away by Samson.

Samuel Guilbaut (Varennes, Q.C.) found the back of the net in overtime to make it 7-6 to complete the comeback and earn Moncton their second win of the 2021-22 campaign.

Nathael Roy earned Subway player of the game honours.

Both teams are back in action Wednesday, November 3 with Dalhousie travelling to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axemen while Moncton heads to UPEI that same night.
