Dalhousie Tigers men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Josh Wainman for the 2020-21 season.

A 6’0 defenceman, Wainman played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He accumulated 20 points, scoring six goals and 14 assists during the 2019-20 campaign with the Guelph Storm before the season was ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before joining the Storm, Wainman played the 2018-19 season with the Hamilton Bull Dogs after two years with the Erie Otters. He averaged 12 points per season in his first three years in the OHL and helped the Otters to a J. Ross Robertson Cup win at the end of the 2016-17 season.

“Attending Dalhousie gives me a great opportunity to further my education while continuing to play hockey at a high level,” says Wainman. “I’m really excited to be part of Dalhousie for the next four years.”

A native of Peterborough, Ont., Wainman plans to pursue a Bachelor of Management during his time at Dalhousie.

“Josh is a solid all-around defenceman with great skating skills, who was tasked with playing quality minutes and providing leadership to every team he has played for during his five-year career in the OHL,” says Donnelly. “We will look to Josh to improve our team’s defensive game, including our penalty kill.”

The Tigers finished the 2019-20 season in seventh in the AUS conference, just shy of a playoff position.
