(FREDERICTON, NB) Less than 24 hours after suffering their first regulation time loss of the season, the UNB Varsity Reds got back into the win column, in a rare Sunday afternoon game. 

Rylan Parenteau (Sasksatoon, SK) made 12 saves and recorded his first Atlantic University Sport shut-out, leading the V-Reds to a 3-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers. 

"That's always something you strive for as a goaltender, perfection," said the freshman netminder. "Any time your team gives up that few shots, you basically owe it to your team to hold them to no goals. That's our goal every single night." 

Sunday's game was originally scheduled for Friday evening, but was postponed due to weather. 

Randy Gazzola (Thorold, ON), Alex Goulet (Disraeli, QC) and Cam Brace (Etobicoke, ON) scored the UNB goals. 

Gazzola's goal, an unassisted power-play strike at 6:53 of the first period, stood as the game-winning goal and earned the Varsity Reds assistant captain first star and Subway Player of the Game honours. 

"I think I've always had a knack for creating offence," said Gazzola. "It was important for us to bounce back today." 

"We needed a response today, after a tough loss yesterday," said Parenteau. "We, obviously, wanted to put it behind us, but didn't want to forget about it." 

Corbin Boes (Saskatoon, SK) stopped 44 of 47 shots in the Tigers net and was named the game's second star. 

"I thought we got through the first period, then they just kept kind of wearing us down," said Boes. "After getting a win last night to stop a long losing streak, to come out and get outclassed is frustrating, but kudos to UNB." 

Gazzola credited Boes for keeping the Tigers close. 

"Positionally, he's always in the right spot and I felt we could've had one or two more goals, but he's there, that's a strength of their team." 

Olivier LeBlanc (Quebec City, QC) had a pair of assists for the V-Reds. He was the game's third star. 

With the win, the Varsity Reds move back into first place in the AUS standings with a 16-1-3 record. 

The Tigers are now 3-16-1, and sit last in the seven-team league. 

"Inside our dressing room we know we've got a lot of details to clean up, systems-wise," said Boes. "The good news is, we play them again next weekend, so we have to have a hard week of practice and try to find a way to put together a better game." 

The same two teams will face-off again Friday, in Halifax. Game time is 7:00pm.
