(FREDERICTON, NB) The Atlantic University Sport leading UNB Varsity Reds scored twice in the third period, including once into an empty net, to beat the visiting Dalhousie Tigers 3-1 on Saturday. 

Tristan Pomerleau (Riviere-du-Loup, QC) scored what would prove to be the winning goal at 14:17 of the third. It was Pomerleau's first goal as a V-Red. 

Cam Brace (Etobicoke, ON) scored UNB's other goals, one short-handed and one into an empty net. 

"Personal success is always good, but it can't overshadow the team effort and the team effort wasn't really there," said Brace. "We're happy with the two points, but we have to move forward." 

A hard-working Tigers team opened the scoring late in the first period when Alex Pawelczyk (Sterling Heights, MICH) beat Rylan Parenteau(Saskatoon, SK). 

Dal would take that lead to the first intermission. 

Brace scored his short-handed goal midway through the second before UNB sealed the win in the third. 

Joe Gladnick (Philadelphia, PA) stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced in the Tigers net to earn third star honours. 

"It's nice to go in and hold the team in there," said Gladnick. "Obviously, we would've liked to have gotten the two points there, but we'll have to bounce back next weekend." 

Despite the loss, Gladnick says the young Tigers team is starting to come together. 

"This weekend we kind of came out on the short end of the stick, even last night against UPEI, but I think a lot of guys are starting to come around and see the positives in everything," he said. 

"You've got to give them credit," said Brace, of the Tigers. "They pressured our D, they pressured our forwards. Their game plan was on point tonight." 

UNB remains atop the AUS standings with an 11-0-1 record. 

Dal is now 2-9-1, good for sixth place. 

The Varsity Reds visit St FX next Friday, before a re-match with the Tigers, in Halifax, next Saturday. 

Dal hosts UPEI on Friday.
