Men's Hockey home opener

The men's hockey team opened their season tonight with a game against the UPEI Panthers. The Panthers got off to a quick start with a power play goal in the first ten minutes by Tyler Brown.  Tiger Matt English was able to tie things up before the end of the first period.

The beginning of the second period saw Panther Derek Ryckman miss a goal on an open net. The wasted opportunity could have been Ryckman's first AUS goal. The Panthers continued to build up to their next goal and on a turnover, Panther Jordan Mayer didn't falter, shooting and scoring. First year player Cody McNaughton scored on a shorthanded play, bringing the Panthers score up to three.

The third period started off with another goal for UPEI by Matthew Brenton. It wasn't long before Mayer scored his second goal of the evening, bringing the final score to 5-1 for UPEI.
The Tigers had multiple opportunities for goals on power plays but were outmatched against the nationally ranked Panthers.  The veteran team outshot Dal, 38 to 22.
The Tigers have a good chance to rebound tomorrow when they play St. Thomas at 7:00pm.
