Lydell Husbands-Browne scored 23 in the Tigers 79-77 loss to the Capers.
The CBU CAPERS defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 79-77 in AUS Men's Basketball action at the Sullivan Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 15 in their final home game of the season.
The CAPERS and the Tigers spent the first quarter taking turns scoring until the halfway mark when the Tigers went on a run and pulled ahead by as much as 10. The quarter ended with the Tigers up 24-14.
The CAPERS spent the second quarter working to close the gap in the score but struggled finding the hoop until the latter part of the quarter when they were able to better defend the DAL offence and light a fire in their offence. CBU came within 4 with a half-time score of 43-39 in favour of DAL.
The third quarter saw the CAPERS pull ahead briefly before the Tigers went on a coring streak to go back ahead by 9 at the 3-minute mark. The CAPERS battled back to within 5 by the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter was intense in the last 3 minutes. The Tigers had the lead right up until the last minute. Stefan Anisko's 3-poinyter put the CAPERS ahead by 1. Riley Stewart stole the lead back with a layup. At the 20 second mark, Tafari Black hit a 3-point shot to put the CAPERS up by 2. With 4 seconds on the clock Gabe Damey tried for a 3-point shot but missed and during the battle for the rebound, the final buzzer sounded. The CAPERS took the win in this exciting finish.
Lydell Husbands-Browne dropped 23 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds for the Tigers. Caleb Stewart added 18 points, 4 assists and 6 rebounds and Gabe Damey scored 16 points, 4 assists with 7 rebounds.
Shak Pryce, the Subway Player of the Game, scored an impressive 33 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Stefan Anisko and Tafari Black both added 13 points towards the win.
The CAPERS honoured 4 of their senior students after the game this evening: Fifth-year Tyson Cato (St. Catherines, ON), fifth-year Shak Pryce (Pickering, ON), fourth-year Mitchell Mersereau (Sydney, NS) and Shemar Brown (Toronto, ON).
Dalhousie will finish their season on Friday, February 21with a game at Saint Mary's at 6pm.
The CAPERS will finish their season with a game at UPEI on Saturday, February 22 at 6pm.
