The Dalhousie Tigers fell to the UNB REDS with a final score of 89-64 on Saturday at the Dalplex.
During the first quarter, the REDS took an early lead with a series of successful shots, highlighted by Eden Otshudi's jumper that put them on the scoreboard first. Dalhousie's Gabe Damey responded with a jumper at 5:29, marking the team's initial points after a full timeout. Austin Thomson contributed with a layup at 3:49, assisted by Gabe Damey, as Dalhousie worked to close the gap. Despite efforts by Drake Kucharik, who scored a 3-pointer with an assist from Lydell Husbands-Browne. at 1:23, Dalhousie ended the quarter trailing 17-10.
In the second frame, Dalhousie scored 18 points, with Jayden Parker contributing significantly with both baskets and free throws. Caleb Stewart added points from the free-throw line, while Riley Stewart hit a 3-pointer at 2:45. Gabe Damey and Lydell Husbands-Browne. each added key baskets, with Husbands-Browne. also making a free throw to keep the team's offense active. Despite these efforts, the REDS managed to outscore Dalhousie 23-18, maintaining their lead throughout the half.
During the third quarter, Dalhousie scored 17 points, highlighted by contributions from Lydell Husbands-Browne, who started with two successful free throws at the 10:00 mark. Despite efforts from Riley Stewart and Austin Thomson, who added points in the paint, the REDS maintained a strong lead. Dalhousie showed resilience with a late scoring push from Drake Kucharik and Dolu Johnson, contributing five consecutive points in the final moments, but the REDS' consistent scoring kept them ahead, leading to a final frame score of 29-17 in favor of the visitors.
In the fourth quarter, Dalhousie managed a balanced offensive contribution, highlighted by Jayden Parker's successful free throws at 7:30 and layup at 4:30. Nathaniel Titus also made significant impacts with a layup and an assist for Giovanni Ajiamah's 3-pointer at 1:20.
