Reid leads Tigers in loss to X-Men
Andre Reid had 16 points in the Tigers 93-72 loss to the X-Men on Friday.
The Dalhousie Tigers fell to the STFX X-Men, 93-72, on Friday at the Saputo Centre.
The first half saw a competitive start as Dalhousie and the X-Men exchanged leads early on. Andre Reid's 3-pointer at 7:45 gave Dalhousie a brief lead, while Jayden Parker contributed with an assist. Caleb Stewart added to Dalhousie's score with a jumper, bringing the score to 7-4. Despite Gabe Damey's fast break jumper narrowing the gap to 10-9, the X-Men extended their lead with consecutive scoring plays, including a 3-pointer by Bennett Grumbach. Gabe Damey hit another 3-pointer late in the half, but the X-Men maintained a 21-14 lead at the end of the first.
In the second half, the X-Men secured a 9-point lead early at 9:31, highlighted by Gatluak James' jumper. Caleb Stewart's 3-pointer, assisted by Gabe Damey, narrowed the gap to six points at 6:24. Riley Stewart scored consecutively with a series of jumpers, bringing the score to 26-31 at 1:42. Giovanni Ajiamah's 3-pointer at 0:50 kept the game close, ending the half with both teams scoring 19 points each, maintaining the X-Men's lead at 40-33.
In the third quarter, our team, Dalhousie, scored 19 points with key contributions from Andre Reid, who made a notable 3-pointer early in the half, and Caleb Stewart, who added two free throws at 6:22. Jayden Parker contributed with both scoring and assists, while Gabriel Marcotullio closed the half with a successful 3-pointer. The team faced a strong offensive performance from the X-Men, who scored 34 points, leading to their largest lead of 25 points with just 17 seconds remaining in the half. Despite several missed opportunities and turnovers, our team showed resilience with moments of effective scoring.
In the fourth quarter, Dalhousie scored 20 points while the X-Men added 19 to their total. Andre Reid led Dalhousie with a scoring streak that included a jumper at 4:24 and two successful free throws later in the half, increasing their score to 67. Mustafa Abokar contributed significantly with multiple successful jumpers, including a pivotal shot that brought Dalhousie to 69 points. Despite a strong effort, including a late-game 3-pointer by Gabriel Marcotullio, the team was unable to close the gap created by the X-Men's early 30-point lead.
