Gabe Damey had a game-high 22 points in the win on Friday.
HALIFAX, N.S. — The Dalhousie Tigers secured a crucial 76-68 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday night at Dalplex, snapping a two-game losing streak.
Dalhousie was led by Gabe Damey, who scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Lydell Husbands-Browne added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jayden Parker contributed 11 points and seven boards off the bench.
The Tigers shot 46.8% from the field for the game, outpacing the Huskies' 40.9%. Dalhousie's bench was particularly effective, outscoring Saint Mary's reserves 31-15, with key contributions from Parker and Caleb Stewart, who chipped in five points and five assists.
Saint Mary's had a strong individual performance from Jayrell Diggs, who led the Huskies with 19 points and four rebounds. Jasha'jaun Downey added 15 points, but struggled from the three-point line, finishing 0-for-11 from beyond the arc. Despite controlling the paint, outscoring Dalhousie 40-28 inside, Saint Mary's couldn't overcome a slow shooting night and Dalhousie's free-throw efficiency.
The game was tightly contested through the first three quarters, with Dalhousie holding a slim 60-51 lead heading into the final period. Despite a late push from Saint Mary's, the Tigers sealed the victory with strong free-throw shooting, finishing 15-for-24 from the line, compared to the Huskies' 10-for-13.
Dalhousie's defense clamped down in the fourth quarter, limiting Saint Mary's to just 17 points. The Huskies were unable to capitalize on their early momentum, allowing Dalhousie to hold on for the win.
Andre Reid was named the player of the game for the Tigers.
The Tigers return to the court on January 8 when they host STFX. The Huskies open the second half on January 10 when they host UPEI.
