Tigers fall to Sea-Hawks 68-57

ST. JOHN'S, NL – The Memorial Sea-Hawks overcame a slow start to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers 68-57 in an AUS men's basketball game on Saturday night at The Works Fieldhouse.
Dalhousie (2-6) took an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 21-11, thanks to a solid performance from Gabe Damey, who scored 11 points in the opening period. However, Memorial (6-2) responded in the second quarter, rallying back with 21 points to tie the game at 39-39 at halftime.
The Sea-Hawks' defense tightened in the second half, and Memorial's offensive charge was led by Flynn Boardman-Raffet, who finished with a team-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. Norm Burry also played a key role, contributing 21 points, including four three-pointers. Memorial's shooting improved in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter, where they shot 53.3% from the field to pull away.
Dalhousie struggled offensively in the second half, scoring just 18 points in the final two quarters. The Tigers' shooting, which had been effective early on, dropped off significantly, particularly from beyond the arc. Dalhousie finished the game with just 34.4% shooting from the field and 37% from three-point range. Gabe Damey's 11-point first half was the highlight for Dalhousie, but he finished with only 3 more points as the Sea-Hawks defense clamped down.
In contrast, Memorial's offense clicked in the second half, with Burry and Boardman-Raffet leading the charge. Jodick Moudiandambu also contributed 13 points, including three three-pointers, as Memorial capitalized on their shooting accuracy, especially from deep.
Dalhousie's bench also struggled, with only 16 points coming from reserves compared to Memorial's 6. Despite their best efforts, the Tigers couldn't maintain their early momentum, and Memorial sealed the win with a 19-point fourth quarter.
Memorial will look to continue their strong play as they head to Cape Breton next week. Dalhousie return to the court on Saturday to face cross-town rivials, the SMU Huskies.
