Sea-Hawks beat Tigers 72-54
Gabe Damey had a team-high 15 points in the loss.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – The Memorial Sea-Hawks cruised to a 72-54 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers at The Works Fieldhouse on Thursday night. Memorial's balanced attack, led by a standout performance from Flynn Boardman-Raffet, who scored 29 points, proved too much for the visiting Tigers.
The first quarter was a tight affair, with Dalhousie leading 9-8 at the halfway point. Both teams struggled with their shooting, as Memorial shot just 28.6% from the field, while Dalhousie wasn't much better at 23.5%. However, Memorial took control in the second, using a 16-point quarter to pull ahead 26-19 by halftime.
Boardman-Raffet sparked the Sea-Hawks' offense in the second half, scoring 19 of his game-high 29 points in the final two periods. His dominant performance at the free-throw line, where he made 10 of 12 attempts, helped Memorial build a commanding lead. The Sea-Hawks shot 71.4% from the charity stripe overall, compared to Dalhousie's 54.5%.
Dalhousie, which had offensive struggles throughout the game, was led by Gabe Damey, who scored 15 points but shot just 5-for-16 from the field. Lydell Husbands-Browne added 11 points, while Caleb Stewart struggled with only 3 points on 1-for-5 shooting. Despite a solid team effort on the boards (Dalhousie grabbed 29 rebounds to Memorial's 38), the Tigers couldn't find an offensive rhythm, especially from beyond the arc, where they shot just 14.8%.
Memorial's defense was stifling, forcing 15 Dalhousie turnovers and converting those into 17 points. The Sea-Hawks also dominated the paint, outscoring the Tigers 42-26 in that category.
Dalhousie fought to stay in the game but could not close the gap in the fourth, as Memorial extended their lead to 18 points in the final frame, outscoring the Tigers 27-12.
With the win, Memorial improves to 5-2 on the season, while Dalhousie drops to 2-5. The two teams return to the court on Saturday for a rematch.
