Tigers add Murphy for 2024-25
Tigers men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of James Murphy for the 2024-25 season.
Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of James Murphy for the 2024-25 season.
Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Murphy played for Silverthorn Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Ontario in the 2023-24 season. The 6’7 forward and his Silverton teammates won the Toronto District Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TDSSAA) city championship in 2024 and was named an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association provincial all-star award.
In the 2023-24 season Murphy also suited up for the Full Circle Basketball Academy in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association and Northern Kings AAU team.
“I am excited to start my career as a Tiger and to work with the team and staff to reach my personal and team goals,” says Murphy.
Murphy will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.
“James is another local Halifax talent that will be counted on to provide toughness inside on the defensive end and provide improved rebounding at both ends of the court,” says Plato. After a year of prep school in Ontario, his offensive abilities have improved significantly since his Gr.12 year at Citadel High School. With his height, he can be a solid forward for years to come in the AUS. I am pleased that James has chosen to remain at home, and I truly believe that the heights of his success will only be limited by his own effort, commitment, and dedication.”
The Tigers open their AUS title defence on October 30 when they travel to STFX for a rematch of the 2022-23 AUS championship game.
