Christie drafted sixth overall in 2024 CEBL Draft

Malcom Christie has been drafted sixth overall by the Scarbrough Shooting Stars in the 2024 CEBL Draft.

This season Christie racked up the awards. The Tigers co-male athlete of the year was also named the AUS MVP and first team all-star, AUS championship tournament MVP and all-star and a U SPORTS first team all-Canadian.

The Fredericton, NB native average 22.1 points per game this season, draining a career-high 443 points, 51 of which came in a single game versus UNB in November, setting a new Dalhousie record. The third-year guard also set the record for most three-point shots made in a season for the Tigers with 79.

In March, the CEBL announced a newly rebranded and expanded draft format beginning in 2024 that includes all eligible Canadian U SPORTS and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) student-athletes. The CEBL Draft presents a coveted opportunity for top players in U SPORTS and the CCAA to get a chance to experience professional basketball by practicing and playing alongside veteran pros from the NBA, NBA G League, Canadian National team, and top international leagues.

Each CEBL club made three selections total (one in each round) in 2024 of either returning or graduating Canadian post-secondary players. The priority of selection in round one was the reverse order of how each team finished the 2023 regular season, and the following rounds reverted to a ‘snake format’ in reverse order of the previous round.

The Scarbrough Shooting Stars finished third in the eastern conference last season with a record of 11-9 before making a run in the playoffs and capturing their first tile in team history. The Shooting Stars open their 2024 season in Winnipeg on May 24 when they travel to face the Winnipeg Sea Bears. Christie’s Shooting Stars will face up against Tigers alum Keevan Veniot who was signed to the Ottawa BlackJacks earlier this week.

Christie is the highest draftee from the AUS where three players from the Atlantic conference were selected. This is the first time Christie has been selected and is the third Tiger to be drafted in the six year history of the CEBL.
