Antigonish, NS – The Dalhousie Tigers topped the STFX X-Men 85-70 Saturday night in AUS action on Coach K Court at the Saputo Centre, picking up four points in the AUS standings with the win.
Nginyu Ngala (Montreal, QC) led the Tigers offensive attack with a game-high 19 points and earned Subway player of the game honours. He also had nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
The first place Tigers had four others in double scoring digits including Keevan Veinot (Port Williams, NS) with 15 points and seven rebounds and Shamar Burrows (Nassau, Bahamas) with 14. Alex Carson (Lower Sackville, NS) and Samuel Maillet (Moncton, NB) each contributed 12 and Maillet also had eight boards.
With the win the Tigers remain in sole possession of first place in the AUS standings with a 6-2 record.
The X-Men drop to 4-4 on the season.
Justin Andrew was the player of the game for X. He scored 15 and had three rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Antoine Vernon scored 17 points for the X-Men and Dondre Reddick netted 14 and had six rebounds.
It was the X-Men who got out to an early lead in the game, going up 17-11 after the first quarter.
The Tigers had a big second quarter, outscoring the X-Men 32-22 as they took a 43-39 halftime lead into the locker room.
Dalhousie kept up the steady pace in the third quarter and held a 66-53 advantage after three, and the X-Men could not find their way back in the game as the visitors took home the 85-70 win.
Both squads will be back in action on Saturday, November 27th. The Tigers will host Acadia while the X-Men will host UPEI. Tip-off for both games is 8:00 pm.
