Tigers down Sea-Hawks to advance to semifinal
Alex Carson paced the tigers with 16 points in the Tigers 83-59 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks to advance to the AUS championship semifinal.
(HALIFAX, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers (3rd) defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 83-59 in Friday night's second men's quarterfinal of the Subway AUS Basketball Championship.
At the end of the first quarter the Tigers led the Sea-Hawks 18-15, paced by Alex Carson's nine points (2-2 from three).
Memorial's AUS first team all-star Nathan Barker had a strong start to the second, getting to the hoop for two layups and cutting the Dalhousie lead to just two with 7:13 to play in the first half.
However, the Tigers' Xavier Ochu and Jordan Wilson scored eight and six points respectively in the second quarter, helping Dalhousie extend their lead to 16 heading into halftime.
Dalhousie continued to push their lead in the third as Keevan Veinot was able to find his teammates in scoring position, racking up six assists through three quarters and helping the Tigers take a 65-43 lead into the fourth.
Anchored by their strong defensive effort, the Tigers continued to dominate in the fourth, pushing their lead to as much as 26 in the frame.
Memorial's Nathan Barker finished with a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists in the loss.
Dalhousie's Keevan Veinot was named the Subway Player of the Game for his effort in the win.
The Tigers move on to face the no. 2-ranked UNB Reds in the second men's semifinal tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at Scotiabank Centre.
