Basketball Tigers beat Saint Mary's 81-71

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The Saint Mary's Huskies lost to the visiting Dal Tigers 81-71 on Saturday night from the Homburg Centre in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action. 

Saint Mary's guard Nikita Kasongo (Montreal, Que.) paced all scorers with 32 points in the loss and shot 13-19 from the foul-line. 

SMU jumped out to a quick 20-15 first quarter lead and Dal used a 16-11 second quarter frame to tie the game 31-31 at halftime. 

The Tigers used a 24-17 third quarter frame and led 55-48 after thirty minutes of action. 

The fourth quarter saw a 26-23 advantage for Dal and the Tigers held on for the 81-71 victory. 

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, Ont.) added 15 points for the Huskies while teammate Nico Brauner (Wiesbaden, Germany) had 10 in the loss. 

Sven Stammberger (Halifax, NS) added a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds for Dal while teammates Xavier Ochu (Milton, Ont.) had 16 points off the bench and Alex Carson (Lower Sackville, NS) added 14. 

Up next for Dal (6-2) is a weekend series hosting the 2-6 Memorial University Sea-Hawks January 12th-13th with tip-off set for 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. 

The Huskies (4-4) visit 0-8 UPEI next weekend for two games versus the Panthers January 12th and 13th with tip-off for both games set for 8 p.m. 

Saint Mary's returns home to the Homburg Centre for an 8 p.m. Wednesday January 17th four-point game versus 4-4 StFX.
