(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Keevan Veinot and Conor and Riley Foran to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.
A 6’4 guard, Keevan Veinot comes to the Tigers after successful high school and provincial team careers. He helped lead Horton High School to a division 1 provincial championship title last season after placing third in 2015. A multiple all-star and tournament MVP in his high school career, he earned Horton’s rookie of the year award in 2014 and was the co-winner of the male athlete of the year at the end of the 2016 season.
A native of Port Williams, N.S., Keevan was a member of Team Nova Scotia’s U16 (2015) and U17 (2016) national championship squads.
“I am really looking forward to coming to Dalhousie and to be a part of the basketball program,” says Keevan. “I’m excited to play under the leadership of Coach Plato and with the team.”
An honours student, Keevan will begin his degree in commerce in the fall.
“For the second year in a row, I believe we have landed the top high school player in Atlantic Canada,” says Plato. “We are fortunate to have secured Keevan for the next five seasons and he will be counted upon to help carry on the tradition of great Dalhousie point guards like Simon Farine and Ritchie Kanza Mata.”
Joining Keevan are Halifax natives Conor and Riley Foran. Members of the Halifax Grammar basketball team for the last three seasons, Conor and Riley helped lead them to a third-place finish at the 2016 division 1 provincial championship.
Standing at 6’6 and 6’5 respectively, Conor and Riley were both members of the Basketball Nova Scotia provincial team program from 2013-2016.
“My family and I are very excited for this opportunity,” says Conor. “Coach Plato is one of the best coaches in U SPORTS and I am eager to learn and work hard to contribute to the program in any way I can.”
“I feel like Dalhousie is the best place for me to learn and grow both on and off the court,” says Riley. “I’m looking forward to starting school and becoming part of the Dalhousie community through more than just athletics.”
Both honour roll and International Baccalaureate students, Conor and Riley are enrolled in Dalhousie’s commerce co-op program.
“The Foran brothers will bring a rugged toughness, desire and physicality that will be needed to help replace departing seniors Kashrell Lawrence and Ryall Stroud,” says Plato. “After stellar careers at Halifax Grammar School, Riley and Conor will be called upon to be effective defenders and rebounders and will be offensive threats as well. I am convinced that they have only just scratched the surface as to what they are capable of. The future looks bright for the Tigers with the addition of three solid Nova Scotians.”
The Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball team finished the 2016-17 with a U SPORTS bronze medal after winning their third consecutive AUS championship title.
