WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Thursday night's game against the Dalhousie Tigers marked the Axemen's third loss against the Tigers this season. Third place and U Sports No. 9 ranked Dalhousie dominated the game and handed the Axemen a 101-84 loss. 

The Axemen had finally broken their two-game losing streak after a90-82 win over Saint Mary's last week, but were unable to match up to last year' AUS champion Tigers.

Dalhousie pulled out to a 24-11 lead in the first quarter, with all five starting players posting at least two points.

Player of the game, KashrellLawrence(Brampton, ON), led the Tigers into the second quarter, shooting four-for-four adding to his 22 total game points.

The Axemen shot 10-13 in the second quarter with Erik Nissen (Quispamsis, NB), who currently leads the league in total points, and forward Kyle Arsenault (Fredericton, NB) putting up six and seven points respectively. 

However, it was not enough to overcome the Tigers Sven Stammberger (Halifax, NS), who added 13 points to Dalhousie's lead, bringing the score to 49-37 for the Tigers at the half.

The Tigers continued to lead the play in the second half of the game. Acadia battled back with three-pointers from Kyle Arsenault and stand-out rookie Trevon Grant (Nassau, Bahamas), but could not compete with the Tigers 77.8% three-point shooting percentage.

The Tigers finished off the third quarter with an impressive dunk from forward Sascha Kappos (Miami, FL) in the last second to give Dalhousie a 79-61 lead.

Acadia attempted to make up the gap in the final quarter, with Acadia players Nick De Palma (Bedford, NS) and Kyle Arsenault both shooting two for two from the perimeter, but the Tigers held their lead, finishing with a 101-84 win.

Stammberger led the Tigers with 28 points – 24 of which came from the distant arc, while teammates Lawrence added 22 and Jarred Reid netted 17 points.

Arseneault had an Axemen high 21 points and Erik Nissen and Trevon Grant each added 20 points.

Now 5-6, the Axemen will take on UPEI next Friday in Charlottetown in a four-point game, while Dalhousie will take on the Cape Breton Capers.
