Tigers cruise to 75-47 victory over Huskies

The Dalhousie Tigers topped the Saint Mary's Huskies by a score of 75-47 on Saturday November 12 at the Dalplex. This was the second meeting of the week for the Huskies and Tigers, each of them taking home one game apiece.

The Tigers took an early 6-2 lead in the first quarter with a solid post move by Ryall Stroud.

Huskies player Theon Reefer was quick to show his shooting skills as he landed a swift three-pointer to cut the Tigers lead to three with just over six minutes left in the quarter.

Shortly after, Kashrell Lawrence showed some aggression with a beautiful net drive that resulted in two points for the Tigers.

It wasn't until three minutes left in the quarter when Reefer drained another three pointer for the Huskies to steal the lead from the Tigers by a score of 12-10.

The Tigers defense came up strong in the remainder of this quarter, only allowing the Huskies offense to record two more points. First quarter score 18-14.

Jarred Reid made a smooth layup to extend the Tigers lead to eight early in the second quarter but Brian Rouse of the Huskies responded with a layup of his own.

The Tigers defense stepped their game up during the second quarter as recorded numerous blocks and turnovers on the struggling Huskies offense.

Dalhousie took a comfortable 36-17 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter when Alex Carson nailed a perfect three-pointer.

The Tigers closed out the first half of the battle by a score of 42-23.

A turnover by Tigers player Ryall Stroud allowed Clayton Marquis of the Huskies to open the scoring for the second half of the game.

Saint Mary's player Brent Martindale was one of the only contributors for the Huskies in the third quarter as he tallied a total of seven points for the squad.

Similar to the second quarter, the Huskies were having a tough time capitalizing on their opportunities against the strong Tigers defense. The Tigers would outshoot them this quarter by a score of 17-14

The fourth quarter was all Dalhousie as they started it with a comfortable 59-37 lead and only allowed the Huskies to score a total of ten points.  The final score of the game was 75-47 for Dalhousie University.

The point leader for the victorious Dalhousie Tigers was Kashrell Lawrence with a total of 19 points.

Theon Reefer of the Huskies led the squad with a team high 13 points.

The Huskies are back in action at home Friday November 18 against the UNB Varsity Reds.

The Tigers host the StFX X-Men on Thursday November 17 at 8 pm.
