StFX 98 MSVU 75
The StFX X-Men made sure they didn't leave the Shoveller without a win as they came away with a big victory over the MSVU Mystics in the early game on Sunday.
The Mystics came out firing and Bed Kidston had five points off the bench in the first quarter as they found themselves on top 19-14 after the first frame. The X-Men were quick to respond in the second quarter however, and Cameron Walker's 12 points in the second quarter helped propel them to a 48-34 lead at halftime.
The X-Men kept it going in the second half, and the Mystics could never regain momentum as they fell 98-75. Cameron Walker had a game-high 21 points and ten rebounds in the win for the X-Men, while Davonte Provo added 18 points to go along with eight assists.
The Mystics were led by Brayden White in the loss, as he just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Emad Khalek had 12 points after knocking down four threes on eight attempts.
UPEI 87 Concordia 71
The UPEI Panthers claimed third place in the Shoveller with a convincing 87-71 victory over the Concordia Stingers. The Stingers couldn't get their offense going all game long, and shot just 36.7% from the field in the game.
The starting unit couldn't get it going for Concordia in the first quarter, combining to make just two field goals in the opening frame. The Panthers gained a 22-14 lead coming out of the first quarter and they never looked back as they came away with the victory.
CIS leading scorer Tyler Scott had a game-high 22 points to go along with six rebounds in the win, while Dut Dut went a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe as he added 20 points of his own in the win.
Jean-Daniel Mathieu connected five times from beyond the arc as he led the Stingers with 19 points, while Scheniders Suffrard added 16 points and five rebounds.
UQAM 103 Acadia 89
It was an especially high-scoring affair as the UQAM Citadins came away with a 103-89 victory against the Acadia Axemen. The win came despite a huge day from Acadia's Nick DePalma, who had a game-high 29 points after converting on 8 of his 14 attempts from beyond the arc.
After leading by just three points after the first quarter, the Citadins used a big second quarter to open up the lead to 55-39 at halftime. The Axemen had a late charge in the fourth quarter, but it simply wasn't enough to overcome the lead built by UQAM.
Kewyn Blain led the charge offensively for the Citadins with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Greishe Clerjuste went 6-8 from the field for 18 points to go along with five rebounds.
Dalhousie 77 Saint Mary's 52
The Dalhousie Tigers claimed their second consecutive title as they defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies in the final of the Rod and Joan Shoveller Memorial tournament Sunday at the Dalplex.
The Tigers stingy defense kept the Huskies' high powered offense at bay all game long, and after the Tigers led by just eight points at halftime, they opened the floodgates in the second half as they came away with a 25 point victory.
William Yengue had a huge night offensively for the Tigers, as the former AUS defensive player of the year had a game-high 22 points as he pulled down eight boards. Sven Stammberger was the only other Tiger to reach double digits as he added ten points to go along with six rebounds. Matt McVeigh had nine points off the bench on 3-4 shooting from deep.
Theon Reefer had a team-high ten points in the loss for the Huskies on 5-15 shooting. Marquis Clayton struggled from the field, finishing with seven points on 4-14 shooting from the field and 1-6 shooting from the line.
