The Dalhousie Tigers recorded their first victory of the season as they defeated the UPEI Panthers 93-84 on Saturday night at the Dalplex. Both teams sit at 1-1 on the season after splitting the opening weekend doubleheader.

Jarred Reid was on fire for the Tigers early, going 4-5 from deep for 14 points in the first quarter as he led the Tigers to a 30 point first quarter. Tyler Scott had nine for the Tigers as he went 4-5 from the charity stripe. Cedric Sanogo hit a jumper as time expired to end the quarter and then Tigers led 30-23 after ten minutes of play.

 The Tigers opened up a nine-point lead halfway through the second quarter and the Panthers put on the full-court press, but the Tigers fought through the pressure. Reid pushed the Tigers lead to double-digits when he connected on a free throw to make the game 46-36 with two minutes remaining in the half.

Despite shooting 58.3% from the field in the first half, the Panthers only sank two field goals and had three turnovers and seven fouls in the last six minutes of the half as they allowed the Tigers to jump out to a 53-39 lead going into halftime.

Tyler Scott led the Panthers with 11 points at the half, while Jarred Reid had 22 points for the Tigers.

Miki Sedlarevic sank his first three of the game to open the second half. Ritchie Kanza Mata ignited the crowd when he came up with a steal in the offensive end and drew a blocking call on Brad States, which drew the ire of Panthers coach Tim Kendrick.

Tyler Scott drained his second three of the game with just over a minute left to cut the eight as the Panthers trailed the Tigers 70-62 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Lorzenzo Parker and Tyler Scott hit back-to-back threes to make it a one possession game a 74-72. The Tigers battled back and Cedric Sanogo had the chance to make it a double-digit lead but his second foul shot clanged off the rim. Scott nailed a deep three with 50 seconds left to make it a 90-80 game, but the Tigers held on for a 93-84 victory.

Jarred Reid finished with a game-high 31 points for the Tigers after shooting 5-8 from downtown. Kashrell Lawrence finished just shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Sven Stammberger added 16 points.

Tyler Scott had a team-high 24 points in the loss for the Panthers, while Ellis Ffrench added 17 of his own.

UPEI will hit the court again on November 14 when they host the Cape Breton capers while the Tigers will head to Newfoundland to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks on November 15.
