Tigers men fall in extra end
The Tigers men's team opened their AUS title defence with an extra end, 8-7 loss to the UPEI Panthers.
HALIFAX, NS —The opening day of the 2025 Atlantic University Sport Curling Championships saw five matches played, including the defending champion UNB REDS women win their opening match at the historic Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, NS.
UPEI vs. DAL
Final Score: 7-8 UPEI (9 Ends)
The UPEI Panthers came back to defeat the defending champion Dalhousie Tigers in a thrilling 7-8 win. UPEI stormed out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Tigers responded with a four-point third end to take a 4-3 advantage. UPEI answered, scoring three points in the fourth to retake the lead, but Dalhousie stole two points in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 7-6 advantage heading into the eighth. With the Panthers down to their last rock in the eighth, they were able to steal a single point to tie it at 8-8 and force an extra end. In the ninth end, the Panthers again stole a point to take the 7-8 victory.

STFX vs. MTA
Final Score: 10-4 STFX (7 Ends)
The Saint Francis Xavier X-Women opened their tournament with an 10-4 comeback win over the Mount Allison Mounties. After a scoreless first end, the Mounties opened up a 4-0 lead with two points in each the second and third end. But the X-Women responded with 10 unanswered points, stealing four in the fourth end to tie it, before adding a single point in the fifth, three more in the sixth, and two more in the seventh, as the Mounties conceded after the seventh with the X-Women taking the match 10-4.
UNB vs. SMU
Final Score: 12-1 UNB (6 Ends)
The 2024 AUS Champion UNB REDS started their title defence with a commanding 10-1 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies. The REDS started strong, opening up a 5-0 lead through two ends. Saint Mary's stole a single point in the third end, but the REDS controlled from start to finish, as the Huskies conceded after the sixth with the REDS taking the match 12-1.

MUN vs. STFX
Final Score: 7-4 MUN (7 Ends)
The Memorial Sea-Hawks opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over the STFX X-Men. Memorial stormed out to a 4-0 lead through three ends, but the X-Men responded by stealing two points in the fourth end. The Sea-Hawks scored three more points over the fifth and sixth ends. The X-Men cut into the lead with two points in the seventh, but were ran out of rocks in the eighth as the Sea-Hawks secured a 7-4 victory.
UNB vs. SMU
Final Score: 10-2 UNB (6 Ends)
The UNB REDS cruised to a 10-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in six ends. UNB took a 5-0 lead through the first two ends, before Saint Mary's stole two points in the third. But the REDS finished strong, adding five more points before Saint Mary's conceded in the sixth, with UNB taking the 10-2 victory.
