U SPORTS Top Ten Tuesday (Jan. 14)

U SPORTS Top Ten Tuesday (Jan. 14)

In this week's Top Ten the women's volleyball team moves up to number 2 while the women's swimming team holds steady at number 10, and the men's basketball team drops to number 3.

TORONTO (U SPORTS) – The defending U SPORTS champion Guelph Gryphons start the new season exactly where they left off – as the top-ranked team in the country.

The Gryphons, who swept the national banners for the second consecutive year last March, put on an impressive showing in Windsor at the Can Am Classic over the weekend. Guelph will compete this week at Ottawa’s Winter Invitational and Western’s Don Wright Meet in London, Ont.

On the mats, there are a pair of new national wrestling leaders. The Alberta Golden Bears men and reigning U SPORTS champion Brock Badgers women each claimed top spot following impressive performances at their own respective hosted invitational meets this past weekend. For the Golden Bears, it is their first No. 1 ranking since Nov. 6, 2018. Both teams will now head to the Guelph Open this week.

In other U SPORTS rankings, UNB (men’s hockey) Concordia (women’s hockey), Carleton (men’s basketball), Saskatchewan (women’s basketball), Trinity Western (men’s and women’s volleyball), Calgary (men’s swimming) and UBC (women’s swimming) remain at No.1 for another week.
