Fifth-year sprinter Matthew Coolen is this week’s co-MUSCLE MLK Male Athlete of the Week.

Matthew earned gold at the 2020 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Alberta over the weekend.

He ran an 8.02 to win gold in the 60m hurdles on Friday, bettering his silver medal performance from last year. He set a new Dalhousie record in the process, topping his previous time of 8.04 seconds.

He also earned a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash Thursday night.

A native of Halifax, N.S., Matthew is an engineering major.
