Tigers take 3-0 win over Huskies

On Friday, January 15, the Saint Mary's Huskies visited Dalplex to take on the Dalhousie Tigers. Dalhousie came away with the win at a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) over Saint Mary's with 200 supporters in attendance.

The Huskies took the lead at the start of the first set, but later in the game, Dalhousie took over the lead which they maintained for the remainder of the game. Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS), of Dalhousie, made several strong kills throughout the first set, ensuring that the Tigers kept their lead. On the opposition, the Huskies' libero, Tessa Michaels (Mill Bay, BC), kept her team on a strong defence with several digs during the set. The Tigers won the set with a close score of 25-20 over the Huskies.

Saint Mary's entered the second set strongly and had a six point lead only minutes into play. Dalhousie came together later in the set to take back the lead with some well-placed kills and strong blocks. To finish the set, Marisa Mota (Kitchener, ON) set up Baker for the kill to take the win at a score of 25-19 for Dalhousie over Saint Mary's.

The third, and final, set was a strong finish for Dalhousie. The Huskies showed a solid offence as well with help from Emilla Conlon (Dartmouth, NS) who had a total of 18 assists throughout the game. On Dalhousie's side, Abby Czenze (Halifax, NS) made several chances for the Tigers with her 28 total assists during the course of the game which helped teammate Mieke DuMont (Kamloops,BC) on her 36 total attacks for the game. Dalhousie won the set with a score of 25-16 against the Huskies.

Player of the game for Dalhousie was Jessica Josenhans (Lunenburg, NS) who earned 10.5 points for the team and player of the game for Saint Mary's was Tessa Michaels. The final score was a 3-0 win for the Tigers. Dalhousie (7-2), who is currently ranked first in the AUS standings, will have their next game on Saturday, January 16 at Dalplex and they will be playing the UNB Varsity Reds (3-7). Saint Mary's (2-7) next game is against Moncton (2-8) on Saturday, January 23.
