"Win, and you're in."

That was the UPEI Panthers' motto heading into Saturday's high-stakes matchup against the Dalhousie Tigers. The Panthers needed a win to advance to the playoffs, and the tension on the field was felt after each passing minute.

UPEI had a narrow lead late in the game before the Tigers (5-4-3) tied it up on a goal by Chloe Richardson, which ended the Panthers' hopes of clinching a postseason berth for the first time since 2014.

From the opening whistle, both teams showcased their determination and passion. Knowing the gravity of the situation, the Panthers (3-6-3) came out with a sense of urgency and looked the part of a playoff team.

UPEI's defence held strong for most of the match, denying the Tigers any clear-cut chances, while UPEI goalkeeper, Claudia Mazzei, made the saves she needed to keep their playoff dreams alive.

The first half ended in a scoreless stalemate, but the Panthers would strike early in the second. In the 52nd minute, the Tigers couldn't clear the ball to safety, leading to a powerful shot from Lydia Hamill from about 23 yards out that was tucked under the top right corner.

The team was fueled after that and had another scoring opportunity in the 59th minute after Wendy Dadzie was tripped in the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty shot. Sarah Eden was the designated kicker, but the veteran midfielder booted it wide to keep it a one-score game.

In the final stretch, UPEI head coach Lewis Page used his substitutions to add more defenders on the field, but the move didn't pay off, as the Tigers were relentless in their attack and put the Panthers on their heels.

And in the 82nd minute, dreams of a playoff berth were shattered instantly as Richardson curled a beautiful shot past the outstretched arms of Mazzei, tying the game at one apiece.

The Tigers will now take on the Memorial Sea-Hawks in quarter-final action on October 26 at 11 a.m.
