(Halifax, NS) - The STFX X-Women defeated the Dalhousie Tigers in a shootout 3-2 at the Halifax Forum Friday night.

The X-Women took an early 1-0 lead when Chloe Oleksiuk (Winnipeg, MB) deflected a shot from Kya Moss (Port Moody, BC), past Tigers goaltender, Grace Beer (Oakville, ON), two minutes into the first period.

However, the Tigers kept the energy up for the rest of the first period with a close shot on goal from Emma Bishop (Bedford, NS) which just missed the top shelf.

Josie Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) led the X-Women into another fiesty period when she popped one in on the powerplay at the beginning of the second. Dalhousie fought back seven minutes later when Emma Penner (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON) fired a shot, getting by STFX goaltender Maggie Johnston (Summerside, PEI) and putting the Tigers on the scoreboard.

Gaining momentum, Kennedy Whelan (Alliston, ON) tied it up for Dalhousie in the third period when she sniped a shot in off a perfectly placed pass from Olivia Eustace (Riverview, NB).

After an aggressive rest of the third period, the game went to an uneventful overtime, and then a shootout – with key blocks from both goaltenders, Beer and Johnston. However, STFX won the game when Lauren Darbrowski (Tiny, ON) scored to give the X-Women a 3-2 victory.

Darbrowski was named the Subway Player of the Game for her shootout winner.

After their victory this evening, X-Women will head to Moncton to play the Aigles Bleues this Sunday at 3 pm. The Tigers will return to the Hallifax Forum on Saturday to take on UPEI at 7 pm.
