(Halifax, NS) On Saturday night at the Halifax Forum the Mount Allison Mounties beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-2 in AUS women's hockey action. Kara Anthony recorded two assists in the winning effort for the Mounties.

Amanda Volcko got the Mounties on the board early in the first period. Volcko came in on a 2-on-1 but decided to keep it beating Mati Barrett with a wrist shot blocker side.

Volcko's tally would hold for the remainder of the period as the Mounties took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after one period.

Neither team could get on the board in the second period as both goalies stood strong. It was a wide-open period featuring plenty of odd man rushes.

Mackenzie Lalonde stretched the Mounties lead to 2-0 just 2:43 into the third period. Shelby Colton found a wide-open Lalonde in the slot who made no mistake ripping a shot past Barrett.

Laura Brooks made things interesting scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the game on a power play. Brooks cleaned up a rebound off a shot from Sarah Robichaud bring the Tigers within one goal.

Two minutes after the Tigers goal the Mounties countered extending their lead back to two goals. Heather Richards pulled off a nifty wrap around fooling the Dalhousie defense and Barrett.

Dalhousie wasn't done yet as the Tigers managed to score with 34 seconds remaining. With the extra attacker out Sarah Robichaud drove the net and found Courtney Sheedy on the doorstep who beat a sliding Kerri Martin.

It was too little too late as the Mounties hung on taking the two points by a score of 3-2.

The Tigers (7-11-1) will be back in action tomorrow, January 31st when they play the Saint Mary's Huskies (14-5-0). Mount Allison (10-9-0) will travel to Moncton tomorrow afternoon (12-6-1).
