Tigers book spots in playoffs

Montague, PEI — Day 3 of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Curling Championships saw the playoff matchups set. On the men's side, Dalhousie finished the round robin with a 3-1 record to come out with the No. 1 seed. Following them is the Saint Mary's Huskies (3-1), then UNB (2-2) and STFX (1-3). 

On the women's side, Dalhousie earned top spot in the round robin with a 6-0. Mount Allison (4-2) and UNB (4-2) finished second and third, respectively. Saint Mary's (3-3) will round out the playoff contenders. 

Sunday's semifinals will go at 9 a.m. with the gold and bronze medal games set for 1 p.m. 

Dal Men vs SMU 
Final Score: 9-2 Tigers (6 Ends) 
The Saint Mary's Huskies men's team dropped their first game of the Championships, as the defending champion Tigers dominated this Saturday morning matchup. Tied 2-2 after three ends, Dal scored two in the fourth, stole three in the fifth and stole another two in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead before SMU conceded. 

 
 

Dal Women vs Mount Allison 
Final Score: 7-6 Tigers 
The defending champs from Dalhousie were pushed in this Saturday afternoon contest, as the Mounties led 5-2 after four ends of play. Dalhousie chipped away at the lead, getting two back in the fifth and stealing one in the sixth to tie things up. After keeping Mount Allison to just one in the seventh, the Tigers utilized the hammer in the final end to score two and take the win. 

 
 
 
 

Dal Men vs UPEI 
Final Score: 8-3 Tigers 
The Tigers (3-1) were in control of this match from the get go, getting out to a 4-0 lead after the first two ends, and then 7-1 after four ends. UPEI scored two in the fifth to cut the lead to four, but the Tigers scored a single in the ensuing end that caused the Panthers to concede. 

 
 
 
 

Dal Women vs UPEI 
Final Score: 5-4 Tigers (EE) 
This one went the distance and then some, as UPEI was fighting to make it into the playoffs. The teams traded singles in each of the first four ends to sit tied at 2-2 before the Tigers changed things up by scoring a pair in the fifth. UPEI scored one to cut the lead to 4-3 and then stole one in the eighth to tie the game. In the final end, Dal was able to use the hammer to score one and finish the round robin a perfect 6-0. UPEI will miss the playoffs at 3-3.
