CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#4)  Reigning champs remain No. 1 in soccer, rugby, cross country

OTTAWA (CIS) – The reigning champion Laval Rouge et Or (women’s soccer), York Lions (men’s soccer), St. Francis Xavier X-Women (women’s rugby) and Guelph Gryphons (women and men’s cross country) remain atop the CIS national rankings this week.

In women’s soccer, Laval improved its conference record to 3-0-1 this past weekend with shutout wins against UQAM, 6-0, and UQTR, 2-0. The Rouge et Or visit McGill (3-1-0) on Friday and host Concordia (1-2-1) on Sunday.

In men’s soccer, York (5-0-1) blanked Brock 1-0 Saturday in St. Catharines, Ont., in its lone duel of the past week. The Lions are back on the road this weekend to face eighth-ranked Windsor (6-1-1) on Saturday and Western (3-3-2) on Sunday.

In women’s rugby, StFX crushed UPEI 48-5 in Charlottetown to improve to 2-0 in league play. The X-Women face their stiffest test of the young campaign on Sunday when they host No. 8 Acadia (2-0).

In cross country, Guelph, which has swept the CIS team titles each of the past nine seasons, tops the women and men’s rankings for the second straight week.
